Sworn translations

Sworn translations are official translations that certify that the content of a translated document corresponds to its original. In Spain, these translations are produced solely by sworn translators appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Generally, sworn translations are requested when presenting foreign documents to the authorities or public bodies of a country whose official language is different from that of the original document.

The following are some examples of the sort of documents sworn translations are usually requested of:

- Birth, marriage and death certificates.

- Degrees and academic transcripts.

- Agreements, court judgments, criminal record certificates.

- Adoption documents.

If you are considering working or studying abroad or planning to marry in a foreign country, or if you wish to apply for your residency or need to submit any other official documents, you may need to present a sworn translation.
